All Day Programs
Teaching children about the natural world should be treated as one of the most important events in their lives.

— Thomas Berry

All-Day Programs are for 5 to 12-year-olds (see age guidelines).

On some of the several days each school year that the Iowa City School District holds parent-teacher conferences, teacher in-service training, or other events that keep children out of school, Taproot offers its All-Day Programs. Essentially a one-day camp, activities on these days depend on the season, the weather, and the interests of the children, and have included fishing, shelter-building, cooking and crafts, farm work, tree climbing, lamb feeding, maple tapping, sledding, trips to Dubuque for water park play and Mississippi River Museum, and garlic planting.

The All-Day programs provide a good place for children on no-school days when parents are at work, where kids can continue and extend their learning in a rich, healthy, fun environment.

Parents may drop their child off between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m., and the day ends at 4:30 p.m. The drop-off and pick-up location is Happy Hollow Park in Iowa City, unless otherwise arranged.

Age Guidelines

The ages for all Taproot Programs are flexible guidelines rather than rigid rules. The Taproot teachers are happy to discuss with parents the individual capabilities and personalities of their children and decide upon the best camp, even if the child does not fall within the recommended age window.
