We will run two sections of Cambium Camp each week during the summer–The Lorax group and Otter group, named for their respective trusty carriages. They’ll split up into separate vans to get places, but will otherwise be together for the most part. The two groups of Cambium are determined mainly by when kids sign up, but if your child wants to be with a friend, please let us know!

Here are the essential Cambium Camp details:

Drop-Off & Pick Up
Morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up are at Lower City Park in the first large parking lot. Cambium Camp regular drop-off is between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m. Parents can pick up Cambium campers between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

We’ll take a longer field trip to Wapsipinicon State Park or Wildcat Den State Park on Thursdays. Spending a day at a special spot, combined with an interesting drive through some cool southeast Iowa countryside adds to the adventure of the week. Cambium Camp returns to City Park at 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays.

We’ll have an early drop-off (EDO) option for supervised free play, starting at 7:45 a.m. You can sign up for the entire week for $25 on the website, or drop in for $10/day, payable by cash or check. We will begin checking in kids for regular dropoff at 8:30 a.m. Before this time, the teachers and junior leaders will be meeting and preparing for the day. Please keep your children away from the van area until it’s time to check them in.

Transportation
Lorax will ride in the white “Lorax” van. Otter will travel in the gray “Otter” van. Most Cambium Campers will ride in a booster seat, which we’ll provide. We also have 5-point car seats. Let us know if your child needs one.

Kids Should Bring Each Day:

water bottle with carrying sling

lunch–hearty and healthy with a minimum of sweets and packaged foods
several tasty and nutritious snacks

weather-appropriate clothing for playing outside
shoes that can get soaked–sneakers, keens, crocs, etc.
a change of clothing
sun hat
swimsuit and swim shirt
towel
NON-SPRAY sunscreen (please apply sunscreen before camp, and we’ll re-apply later)
Bug repellent (preferably some “natural” variety)

Water is the best camp drink for Taproot Kids, with pure fruit juice or your family’s milk choice as a lunchtime treat. Soda pop, sports drinks, and the like do not have a place at Taproot.

Optional Items:

free reading book
journal or sketchbook
Lifejacket/PFD (if they have one they prefer. We have plenty to share.)

It’s helpful if the kids are able to carry their own backpacks or bags a moderate distance. A fun thing to do is pack their backpack and practice hiking around the house or yard with it. It will give them a feel for it and some kids will get more excited about going to camp!

Label everything! This will make it much more likely your child’s belongings will make it home with them.
