Happy 2025!

Dear Taproot Families and Friends,

On this first day of 2025 there’s a stiff, cold wind and the clouds are flying fast across the sky. A skim of ice covers some of the puddles. It’s close to what a real Iowa winter is “supposed” to feel like, and the 10-day forecast says the trend will continue. We’re looking forward to the sledding and snowboarding, snow forts, snowball fights, ice skating and ice fishing, and other joys that a true cold winter makes possible. We are very much enjoying our winter break, with the eldest kid home from college and everybody together. We hope you’re all having a good time too.

We wanted to reach out for a big high-five on completing another year, and to wish us all plenty of resilience, insight, love, courage, humility, humor, and the other good stuff we’ll need to survive and flourish in 2025. As the times seem to grow constantly crazier and more complex–and in many ways scarier–we are ever more grateful for the simple, soothing strength of Nature, Unconditional Positive Regard, and the friendship of our Taproot Community.

And as much as we’re loving this vacation, we miss you and your children! So in order to sort of maintain contact, we’ve recorded ourselves reading a few beloved kids’ books and posted them to the Taproot Youtube channel. Check them out if you want! (We’ll do more stories as the winter goes on, and Gavin tells us that if you subscribe to the channel, you can get a notification whenever we post a new video.)

Here’s to cold temperatures, frozen ponds, and lots of snow outside, with cozy spaces, good food, fun stories, and warm love inside for the rest of the winter!

All the best,
Zac and Elesa
